Description

Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic synthetic lysine analog. It competitively inhibits the binding of fibrin to plasminogen and prevents activation of plasminogen to plasmin. Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Tranexamic acid has proven to be useful in treating hemorrhage from acute blood loss.
