Febuxostat (FBX) is a novel selective non–purine based xanthine oxidase inhibitor that limits the production of uric acid. Febuxostat has a more potent serum uric acid-lowering effect than allopurinol, although its beneficial effect on cardiovascular outcomes is controversial.
